Walshire, Thomas James
Funeral services for Thomas James Walshire, 74, of Mechanicsville, who died Friday, June 7, 2013, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, with Father David Hitch officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Fry Funeral Home in Tipton, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Mechanicsville Cemetery, with full military honors being conducted by the American Legion.
Thomas was born April 25, 1939, in Mechanicsville, Iowa, the son of Edward “Ted” and Elsie (Hudachek) Walshire. He was a graduate of Mechanicsville High School. He was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and was an enthusiast of tractor pulling and thoroughbred race horses. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving in the Vietnam era. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, and the American Legion.
Thomas is survived by his brother, Everette Walshire of Mechanicsville; his sister, Louise (Edward) Poduska of Mechanicsville; several nephews; and his special friend, Elaine Hoy and her family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lewis Walshire.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory.
