Walshire, Mary Rose
Mary Rose Walshire, 89, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Monday, March 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, by Father David Hitch. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
Born Dec. 21, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Winafred (Merrit) Crock, she married Donald Walshire on Jan. 28, 1946. He died in 1997.
Mary graduated from Mechanicsville High School and from business college in Cedar Rapids. Mary and her husband farmed the family farm from 1946 until Don's retirement in 1980. She was an active member of St. Mary's Parish and the ladies guild, as well as a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include eight sons, Keith (Nancy) of Mechanicsville, Allan (Maggie) of Topeka, Kan., Loren (June) of Onega, Kan., Michael of Topeka, Kan., Dennis (Ora) of Mechanicsville, Brian (Vicki) of Rowley, Jeff (Faith) of West Liberty and Vince of Glenwood; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; brother, Francis Crock; and grandchildren, Tom and Jason Walshire.
The family would like to thank the staff at Willow Gardens for the excellent care Mary received while she was there.
