Walser, Gerald 'Jerry' Eugene
Gerald “Jerry” Eugene Walser, 87, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, by Chaplain Phil Saunders, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; three children, Donald (Selma) Walser, Pamela Michulka and Larry (Deb) Walser; four grandchildren, Curtis, Mitchell, Jennifer and Andrew Walser; three great-grandchildren, Emily Walser, McKay Weaver and Greenlee Weaver plus one on the way; siblings, Edith Suchomel, Genevieve Kucera and Kenneth Walser; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Charles Michulka; three grandchildren; brother, LeRay Walser; and sister, Helen Maxine Wagner.
Jerry was born Oct. 19, 1924, in Marion, son of Earl and Mabel Walser. He graduated in 1947 from the University of Iowa, where he lettered in baseball. He served in the Navy during World War II. Jerry married Barbara Heefner on July 6, 1945, at The Little Brown Church. He also played baseball for Wilson's and Link-Belt in the M&J League. Jerry worked as an accountant for Northern Natural Gas, and started Cedar Rapids Bookkeeping Service in 1960, which was later renamed TBSC.
Jerry enjoyed golf, baseball and watching the Cubs, but most important in his life was his family.
He leaves behind his special feline friends, Hank and Ivy.
Thanks to special friends Carol Fitzpatrick and Tina Vogt with Comfort Care and also to St. Luke's Hospice.
A memorial fund has been established for Jerry.
