Wallig, James R.
James R. Wallig, 56, of Marion, formerly of Atkins, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, in his home following a courageous fight with cancer. Funeral Mass: Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, by the Rev. John Gossman. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3 until 7 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, and Thursday after 10 a.m. at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughters, Jami (Mark) LeTourneau of Morton, Pa., and Shauna Wallig of Harrisburg, Pa.; stepchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Leichsenring of Shellsburg, Chad Balvanz of Cedar Rapids, and Jason (Patty) Balvanz of Hiawatha; nine grandchildren, Tyler, Emma, Sarah, Hannah, Noah, Bobby, Courtney, Jackie and Morgan; stepmother, Alice Wallig; stepfather, Ray Herblesb; brother, William (Judy) Wallig of Marion; sisters-in-law, Betty Taken, Chris Keeney, Lucy Shingledecker, Linda St. John, and Belva German; and brother-in-law, Dennis Osterkamp.
His parents; sisters, Cindy Myhlhousen and Deb Woodward; and brother, Dennis Wallig; preceded James in death.
James Randall Wallig was born May 15, 1953, in Dubuque, the son of Carl William and Kathleen Mable (Udelhofen) Wallig. He married Barbara Marie Balvanz on June 12, 1993, in Cedar Rapids. James worked at Quaker Oats for 39 years as a sheet metal worker. He enjoyed fishing, antiques and loved the outdoors.
