Walker, Sondoe Edgar
Sondoe Edgar Walker, 74, a longtime resident of Marion, died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Rev. Darin Whitting, with honors by Marion Police Department. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Survivors include his children, Debra (Greg) Pauly of Springville, Dave (Terri) Walker of Altoona, and Rick Walker of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Kori (Craig) Avis, Joe (Amber) Nietert, Mandy (Nick) Merritt, Zach Walker, Becca Walker, and Gregory Pauly; and four great-grandchildren, Payson Nietert, Brekin Nietert, Addison Merritt, and Kinley Avis. Also surviving are his sister, Bev Armstrong of Marion; close friends of Sondoe and Sharon, Lois Dye of Marion, and Darrell (Pat) Failor of Marion; and canine companion, Mookie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and V. Irol (Miller) Walker; and his wife, Sharon, to whom he was married for 55 years.
Sondoe was born July 18, 1938, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Marion High School in 1956. Sondoe married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Kay Price on May 19, 1956 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Sharon died August 29, 2011. He worked in law enforcement for 35 years, with the Marion Police Department and then with Milwaukee Railroad where he served as the Captain of Police. Sondoe also worked as a realtor in the Cedar Rapids area and was once honored as Realtor of the Year by the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors. He was formerly a Master Gardener, and his backyard was a true example of his knowledge and expertise.
Sondoe's family meant the world to him and they will miss him greatly, but they know he has joined Sharon in Heaven - what a great day of celebration with the Lord!
Memorials may be directed to Hospice House of Mercy in Sondoe's memory.
