Walker, Mark J.
Mark J. Walker, 53, of Clinton, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, after a long battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pape Funeral Home, 2308 Pershing Blvd., Clinton. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Mark was born in Clinton on April 8, 1956, the son of Eugene “Bob” and Joan Banker Walker. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1974 and received his Associate of Applied Science degree from Clinton Community College. Mark married Glenda Morrissey in Nashua, Iowa on Sept. 17, 1988. Mark had been employed with the Seventh Avenue Eagle Supermarket, E.I. DuPont and British Petroleum, from where he retired as a supervisor of propane pipeline operations.
As a youth Mark enjoyed playing his guitar. His favorite song was CCR's “Proud Mary.” As he approached 16 his interests turned to cars, both working on them and racing. Mark was jovial and was always seen with a smile on his face. He enjoyed following his children's activities, riding his Harley and was a Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.
Mark is survived by his wife, Glenda; his children, Max and Halie Walker, both of Clinton; two sisters, Beth (Paul) Fisher of Tyler, Texas and Mary Walker of Clinton; a brother, Matt (Paula) Walker of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
