Waldschmidt, Robert A.
Robert A. Waldschmidt, 77, of Iowa City, formerly of Riverside, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011, at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside. Father Marty Goetz will officiate. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Matthew Mapel, Ryan Mapel, Dan Slaubaugh, Dwight Slaubaugh, Tony Stransky and Hunter Wilson. Honorary casket bearers will be Shannon Sells, Scelena Wilson, Lisa Hayslett and Lori Hanson. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary's Parish Center. Visitation for Bob will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Riverside with a 7 p.m. prayer service.
A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Bob.

Robert Anthony Waldschmidt was born on Feb. 19, 1934, in Riverside, Iowa, the son of George and Albina (Droll) Waldschmidt. On July 18, 1953, Bob was united in marriage to Verlee Millage in Moscow, Iowa. Bob worked for the City of Riverside as the Street Commissioner/Day Marshall. Bob was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, Riverside V.F.W. Post 6414 and past member of the Riverside Fire Department. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, hunting, fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, scratch tickets and visiting the casinos, but most of all, Bob dearly loved to spend time with his family and friends.
Bob will be deeply missed by his children, Monica Fuhrmeister and her husband, Gary of Iowa City, Debra Waldschmidt of Marion, Cindy Mapel and her husband, Mike of Riverside, Patti Slaubaugh and her husband, Bob of Kalona and Karen Nupp of Wayland; nine grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Verlee; one daughter, Carolyn Waldschmidt; one son in infancy, George Waldschmidt; one grandson, Levi Daniel Nupp; six brothers; six sisters; and three stepsisters.
