Waid, William E.
William E. Waid, 73, of 5630 Briarwood St. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 3, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stonebridge Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Randy Scheil officiating. Entombment with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; one son, Bill (Noriko) of Dubuque; four daughters, Deborah (John) Blaha of Swisher, Diane (Steve) Huston of Buffalo, Minn., Darcy (Dave) Rouse-Traut of Cedar Rapids, and Deneen (Dave) Fleck of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Elaine Van Tassle of Crocket, Texas.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Buddy and Jim.
Bill was born Oct. 14, 1936, in Crawford County, Pa., the son of Elvin and Emma Morton Waid. He married Doris C. Straight on April 28, 1956 in Ardsley, Pa. Bill was an operating engineer for Iowa Electric Light and Power Company for 34 years, retiring in 1991. He attended Stonebridge Church, and was a member of the IBEW, the VFW and proudly served in the Navy. Bill enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting, bowling, woodworking and time spent with his beloved family, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established in Bill's name.
