VonLehmden, Thomas J.
Thomas J. VonLehmden, 64, of Rowley, died Thursday evening, May 17, 2012, at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. In accordance with Tom's wishes his body has been cremated. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence, where a military memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Thomas was born Aug. 4, 1947, in Independence, Iowa, the son of LaVern C. and Olga E. (Koopman) VonLehmden. He attended St. John's Catholic Schools in Independence and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On May 10, 1969, he married Betty J. Griffith in Independence, and the couple made their home in Rowley. Tom was employed as a mechanic with Larson Construction for 24 years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty VonLehmden, Rowley; two sons, Jim VonLehmden of Cedar Rapids and Patrick (Amy) VonLehmden of St. Louis, MO.;, three grandchildren, Katarina, Georgia and Brady VonLehmden; and two sisters, Mary (Frank) Tarpy of Independence and Lois (James) Doyle of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; Matthew VonLehmden; a brother; John VonLehmden; and a sister, Agnes Thoma.
