Volk, Lawrence P. 'Larry'

Lawrence P. “Larry” Volk, 68, of 805 Second Ave. NW, Cascade, Iowa, died Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at 2:50 p.m., at Genesis East in Davenport. Friends and relatives of Larry may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Services for Larry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Garryowen, Iowa, with Msgr. Richard Funke officiating. Concelebrating will be the Rev. William Reynolds. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in Cascade, Iowa.

Larry was born Sept. 15, 1944, in Iowa City, Iowa, son of Peter and Viola G. (Scheetz) Volk. He was a 1962 graduate of Aquin High School in Cascade. On Feb. 2, 2000 he was united in marriage to Patty Felton. He was employed at REC in Anamosa from 1976 until his retirement in 2006.

He was a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade and was a 4-H leader for many years. He also served on the Cascade Municipal Utilities board.

Larry had a love for John Deere tractors and had refurbished many tractors in the past years. He enjoyed tractor rides and participating in local parades with his tractors. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially attending their concerts and sporting events. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He loved gardening, canning, fishing and playing cards at the Bent Rim.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Volk of Cascade; his children, Julie (Andrew) McIntosh, Edward (Carrie) Volk and Molly (Brett) Eilers, all of Cedar Rapids and Michael Volk of Gilbert, Ariz.; six stepchildren, Amy (Eric) Loes of Bernard, Jay (Annette) Rollinger of Cedar Rapids, Jeffery (Susan) Rollinger of Shellsburg, Adam (Tracy) Rollinger of Cascade, Matthew (Ann) Rollinger of Cedar Rapids and Audrey (Seth) Green of Cascade; 24 grandchildren; a sister, Joan (Loras) Kurt of Cedar Falls; four brothers, Gerald Volk and Daniel (Sue) Volk of Cascade, Nicholas (Carol) Volk of Walford and Raymond (Laura) Volk of LaGrange, Ill.; his mother-in-law, Mary Jane Felton of Cascade; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Jen) Felton of Hopkinton, Dennis (Gladys) Felton of Dyersville, Sharon Spear, Lester (Susan) Felton and Jim (Sue) Felton, all of Cascade and Jean (Vic) Their of Bernard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Volk; his father-in-law, Joseph Felton; and a sister-in-law, Mary Volk.
