Frank was born June 2, 1920, in rural Johnson County, near Shueyville, Iowa, the son of Emil and Mary (Nove) Volesky. Frank grew up on a farm east of Shueyville. He graduated from the Shueyville High School in 1938 and from the Cedar Rapids Business College in 1939. In January 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and took his basic quartermaster training at Camp Lee, Va. When he completed the basic training he was assigned to the HQ and HQ Detachment 392nd Port Battalion Corps. His tour of duty took him to Iceland for 20 months, England nine months and France for nine months attaining a rank of technical sergeant. Upon his discharge from the Army, Frank decided to find his “niche” in the business world. After 21 years with the Burroughs Corporation in sales, he left Burroughs as account executive to work for the LeFebure Corporation in sales and after 16 years with them Frank retired as a regional sales manager.
He was very proud of his Czech heritage. Frank spent many years volunteering at the Immaculate Conception helping as a Eucharistic minister. Frank was a long time volunteer at the Immaculate Conception Church and Mercy Medical Center. He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Cadets of St. George, Branch W45 FCSLA. In October 2012, Frank took the Freedom Flight with his escort, Steve Hostert to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C.
Frank and Ruth Ann enjoyed a fulfilling life. Their joy was traveling the states and foreign countries and many cruises. One of their favorite spots to visit was Jackson Hole, Wyo. Frank was a simple man with a touch of class.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Ruth Ann Hostert of Cascade, Iowa. They met at the Immaculate Conception Church during Lenten Services. He is also survived by a younger brother, Roman (Lottie) of Shueyville and nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces and great-grandniece.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; two older brothers, Edward and Emil; and two older sisters, Blanch and Leona.
A special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Mercy.
