Vogt, Erwin Everett
Erwin Everett Vogt, 95, of Homestead, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, at Brooklyn Community Estate, Brooklyn, Iowa. Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Homestead, with the Rev. Terry Small officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Erwin is survived by his three children, Barbara (Gaylen) Witzel of Cedar Falls, Sondra (Franc) Gamzer of Wind Lake, Wis., and Douglas Vogt of Homestead; four granddaughters, Laurie (Troy) Creery of Cedar Falls, Christina (Lance) Grimord of Muskego, Wis., Bethany (Conrad) Schmidt of Des Moines and Amanda Vogt of Homestead; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Creery, and Liam and Audriana Grimord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha; and two sisters, Helen Wichmann and Muriel White.
Erwin Everett Vogt was born Dec. 15, 1915, on a farm near Homestead, Iowa, the son of Henry and Hilda (Roth) Vogt. He received his education at St. John's Lutheran School, Homestead. On Sept. 26, 1937, Erwin married Martha C. Rudin in Homestead. She passed away in 1995. Erwin devoted his life to farming. He loved his family, church and the farm. During the course of his lifelong membership at St. John's Lutheran Church, he served in many different capacities.
He thoroughly enjoyed music and his accordion. He liked to play softball, cheer on the New York Yankees and go fishing in Minnesota.
He was a very loving and caring person.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the loving caregivers that Erwin had during his final years of life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to St. John's Lutheran Church, Homestead.
