Vogel, John 'John Boy' Charles
John “John Boy” Charles Vogel, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Mountain Vista Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz., following a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday and after noon Monday.
John married Wilma Ranfeld in Cedar Rapids and they had four children, Jeanne (Michael) Vice, Michael (Marsha) Vogel, Rosemary (Jim) Glubka and Mary Kay (Chuck) Oehler. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers James, Bernard and Donald Vogel; two sisters, Dorothy Schmidt and Anna Meador; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Anthony, Edward, Joseph, Paul and Francis.
John Charles was born Feb. 25, 1927, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the son of Leo and Marie (Claes) Vogel. John retired from the Cedar Rapids Community Schools.
John loved his trips to the casino to play slots and bingo and to spend his winters in Arizona. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. Above all, John enjoyed spending time with his family.
