Voanne Jean (Miller) Hansen, 97, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion. A private family graveside service will be held at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Voanne was born on Dec. 3, 1924,
in Marion, the
daughter of William “Gene” and Fern (Dodge) Miller. She was a lifelong resident of Marion, attending and graduating from Marion High School. On Oct. 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Marion Chester Hansen. To this union, three children were born, Christopher, Katharine and Scott. She was a full-time homemaker until her children were older. Voanne returned to school and earned her B.A. and master’s degree from the University of Iowa. She worked for many years as a librarian at Kirkwood Community College. She was a member of the American Library Association and part of Friends of the Marion Public Library. She loved reading, volunteering, sorting books and was a member of the Marion Library Board, serving as president during part of that time. Voanne enjoyed watching classic movies, traveling on bus tours and watching Iowa Hawkeye women’s sports. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Voanne is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 75 years, Marion Hansen of Marion; three children, Christopher Hansen, Katharine Spalti and Scott (Debra) Hansen, all of Marion; five grandchildren, Rachel Kimble, Sara (Brandon) Briley, Holly (Jordan) Immerfall, Curt (Helen) Hansen and Todd Hansen; six great-grandchildren, Elsie, Lydia, Rowyn, Carver, Everett and Sloan; one sister, Shirlee Mercer of Marion; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene Miller and Fern Kramer; and grandparents, George and Nettie Paul Miller, and Charles and Sadie McKisson Dodge.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Voanne’s memory may be made to either the Marion School Foundation or the Marion Public Library Foundation.
The family would like to thank the staff at Winslow House Care Center, The Villages of Marion Assisted Living and Care Initiatives Hospice for the kindness shown to Voanne and her family.
