Vlk, Robert J.
Robert J. Vlk, 79, of Hiawatha, passed away Monday, July 11, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Private graveside services for the family at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Robert James Vlk was born on April 24, 1932, to Mary Vlk in Cresco, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Irene Norton on Jan. 7, 1956, in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1992. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was considered a professional socializer by his family and many, many friends. Bob was a very active member of Widows and Widowers Club, YEWS and LADOS.
He is survived by his children, Kevin (Luanne) Vlk of Hiawatha, and Barb (Rick) Merritt of Cedar Rapids; sister, Angie Drtina of Cresco; significant other, Marilyn Carpenter of Hiawatha; and two grandchildren, Andrea Vlk and Derek (Shawnna) Merritt, both of Cedar Rapids.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother and spouse.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
