Vivian Suchomel, 94, of Tipton, Iowa, passed away July 27, 2022, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home in Tipton.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tipton with Visitation an hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Nolan Settlement, following the service.
Vivian was born Nov. 10, 1927, in Jones County, Iowa, to Cecil and Emma (Friedricksen) Fall. She attended Olin Consolidated School where she enjoyed playing high school basketball and where she graduated in 1945.
Vivian met her future husband, Bob, at Hi-Way Gardens Ballroom in Stanwood. Both she and Bob loved to dance and attended many dances over the years. Vivian married Bob Suchomel on Sept. 10, 1946, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They farmed with Bob’s father and brother for 22 years before purchasing their own farm near Cedar Bluff in 1968. Vivian sold Avon and worked at American College Testing in Iowa City for 18 years before retiring in 1989. Vivian and Bob retired from farming and moved to Tipton in 1990.
Vivian loved flowers and spending time in her flower and produce gardens. After moving to Tipton, Vivian joined the Tipton Federated Garden Club where she enjoyed spending time with club members planting and caring for flowers. She also enjoyed making porcelain dolls, playing cards, family dinners and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Vivian is survived by her husband of 75 years, Bob; children, Terry (Tracy Hamilton) Suchomel of Iowa City, Nancy (Doug) Schneider of Ely, Roger (Beckie) Suchomel of North Liberty, Jeff (Jodi) Suchomel of Tipton and Steven Suchomel of West Branch; grandchildren, Chris (Teresa) Suchomel of Iowa City, Cathy (Christian) Kaplicki of Glendale, AZ, Kevin (Aleah) Suchomel of Iowa City, Tim Schneider of Spring Hill, Kan., Lori (Chris) Gobris of Appleton, Wis., Jama Suchomel of Los Angeles, Calif., Rachel (Joe) Goedkin of Ottumwa and Meritt (Tim) Kallous of Ankeny; stepgrandchildren, Erica (Scott) Vejrostek of Little Elm, Texas, BreAnna (Justin) Locker of North Liberty and Mitch Moon of Tulsa, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Evan, Max, Grace, Nicolas, Graham, Silas, Ella Rose, Alli, Brynlee, Sofia, Isabella, Hazel, Rosemary and Everett; stepgreat-grandchildren, Eli, Liam, Luke, Jax and Jade; and many nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Donna Bodkin; and great-grandson, Connor.
