Vivian Ruth Lawrence, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Saturday, June 5, 2021, at her home. Per her wishes, no services will be held. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Vivian was born Oct. 10, 1935, in Jefferson, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Luella (Brower) Blackburn. In 1954, she was united in marriage to William Lawrence. The couple later divorced. Vivian worked at United Fire & Casualty for over 20 years until her retirement in 1999. She enjoyed tending to her rose bushes. Vivian was interested in holistic health, astrology, and metaphysics. She cared for the neighbor kids, and was a loving childcare provider to her close friends. Vivian had a deep love for her Dachshunds. She was an extremely resilient and independent woman.
Survivors include her children, Perry Lawrence of Cedar Rapids, Jerry Lawrence of Des Moines and Jill Lawrence (fiance, Don Quijano) of West Des Moines; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jim Hines of Marion; and sister-in-law, Carol King.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Luella Blackburn; former husband, William Lawrence; daughter, Peggy Hines; brothers, Norman, Gerald and Hubert Blackburn; sisters, Lois Blackburn and Gloria Brown; and daughter-in-law, Mariana Lawrence.
