Vivian E. Hickman, 95, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2016. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Gay & Ciha Funeral Service in Iowa City, where visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.

Vivian was born March 22, 1920, in Peterson, Iowa, to David D. and Hedwig (Wolff) Tuttle. She grew up in Storm Lake, graduating from high school in 1937 and from Buena Vista College in 1941. On June 3, 1944, she married Forrest F. Hickman. She taught for many years in many communities throughout the state and went on to obtain her master's degree in librarianship.
In 1965, she began a career at University of Iowa Libraries as a descriptive cataloger until her retirement in 1983.
Vivian taught several classes in beginning genealogy for the Continuing Education Program at the university. She had been a member of the Iowa City Genealogical Society and Chickasaw County Genealogical Society. She also was a 72-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church.
She is survived by son, David (Lynn) of Iowa; daughter, Iris (Dean) Baird of Illinois; and daughter, Stephanie of North Dakota; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren, with another due in May.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of over 57 years, Forrest F. Hickman; and grandson, Joel R. Hickman.
