Vittitoe, Douglas D.
Douglas D. Vittitoe, 70, of Marion and Council Bluffs, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Inurnment: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, at Union Cemetery in Littleport, Iowa.
Doug was born in Logan, Iowa, to Lloyd and Jean (Sublet) Vittitoe on Dec. 13, 1943. He grew up in Herman, Neb.; Decatur, Neb.; and Modale, Iowa. His family moved to Council Bluffs in 1957. Doug moved to Eastern Iowa in 1962. He married Donna Buckingham in 1965. They had three children. They later divorced and Doug married Janet Ruegnitz in 1980.
Doug was body shop manager at Bob Zimmerman Ford in Cedar Rapids from 1975 to 1990. In 1990, he became co-owner of Quality Auto Rebuilders in Marion.
He was an avid fisherman and a member of Cedar Rapids Bassmasters.
He and Janet enjoyed climbing into his truck and taking day trips to various locations. It wasn't unusual to find Doug in a casino.
Doug is survived by his wife, Janet; two daughters, Lori (Steve) Bozanek and Tami (s.o. Fred Mathews) Vittitoe; son, Tony Vittitoe; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter, and a soon to be born great-grandson; brother, Mike (Cindy) Redding; sisters, Becky Redding, Julie Jones, Kathy Redding and Deb Redding; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; his mother, Jean Redding; his stepfather, Lawrence Redding; and his brother, Lyle Vittitoe.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice or to S.O.L.A.S.
