Visek, Jon
Jon Visek, 57, passed away Aug. 29, 2011, at his home in West Des Moines. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in West Des Moines. A memorial visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines, with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m.
Jon began his remarkable life on April 28, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His parents were Lumir and Mary Esther (Lekin) Visek. Raised in Cedar Rapids, he attended Regis High School, class of ‘73, where he met the love of his life, Connie, during his freshman year. Jon began his lifelong career with Hy-Vee in Cedar Rapids. He moved as opportunities became available, first going to Marion, then to Council Bluffs, and ending at the newly opened Grand Avenue store in West Des Moines as the produce manager. Jon retired after 35 years of dedicated service.
Bow hunting for deer, boating, and bass fishing were some of his great passions. Jon was a dedicated teacher of all his favorite outdoor activities to anyone who wanted to learn. He loved to tinker and was known as MacGyver for his unusual fixes. Spending time with his family and friends, taking walks in the park with his dog Pepper, bike riding, and driving his Corvette were just a few of the things he enjoyed most. Jon was an avid Hawkeye fan and loved to participate in all of the fanfare.
Jon is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie Visek of West Des Moines; two daughters, Melissa Visek of Urbandale and Megan Visek of Fort Collins, Colo.; four siblings, Bob (Lois) Visek of Fort Collins, Colo., and Karen Visek, Brian Visek and Diane Dohrmann, all of Cedar Rapids; and his beloved mother-in-law and friend, Jane Wilson of West Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
