Virjean Ann Stolte, age 89 of Lowden, passed away peacefully at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospice Unit on Wednesday December 4, 2024. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden on Monday December 9 at 10:30 a.m with Pastor Daniel Redhage officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time at the church. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
Virjean was born January 31, 1935, in rural Lowden to Sylvan and Adeline (Knabel) Mowry. She was united in marriage to Lawrence “Larry” Stolte on August 21, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowden. He passed away on October 3, 2012.
Survivors include a daughter Sherri (Michael), sons Stan (Susan) and Shawn (Heidi), daughter in law Lisa (Rob), grandchildren Taylor (Jay), Jacoby (Victoria) Nathan (Kristen), Alli (Tyler), and Abbi (Tristan), great grandchildren Ellie, Jace, Addi, & Tate.
Virjean was preceded in death by her parents Sylvan and Adeline, sister Jane, husband Larry and sons Scott and Stacey.
Virjean attended Lowden High School with a highlight playing in the Iowa State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines. She went on to attend and graduate from St. Luke’s School of Nursing and obtained her RN license and was employed at Jackson County Public Hospital as a Registered Nurse and worked there for 40 years. Virjean and Larry farmed the Stolte farm as well as selling Pioneer Seed Corn and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved playing cards with family and friends, was an expert bridge player, loved her morning coffee, a good shrimp dinner, Iowa women’s basketball, watching the Hallmark channel and listening to Willie Nelson. She also enjoyed her children and grandchildren’s school and sports activities.
Virjean supported her husband’s hobby of managing the Lowden Indees Baseball team for over 20 years. Rumor has it between Larry and her 4 sons she washed over 10,000 uniforms!
