Virginia M. Maier, 96, a lifelong resident of Alburnett, passed away on April 3, 2025. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, IA. A visitation will be at 10 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, immediately following services.
Her family includes her children: son Ken (Sue) and his children: Cliff Maier (Melanie), Jennette Maier, Abbey Droz, Brandon Maier (Hannah) and Ryan Maier (Dominque); daughter Carol (Steve) Reeder and their children: Scott (Amanda) Reeder, John (Amanda) Reeder, and Laura Keniston; son Dave (Ginny) and his children, Annette Maier and Daniel Maier; and son Dean (Deb) and his children Andrew Maier (Petra) and Philip Maier (Hannah). Virginia is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, her parents, brothers Earl Sadler and Roy Sadler, daughter-in-law Kathy Maier, a grandson Joseph Maier and two great-grandchildren Christopher and Cassie.
Virginia was born February 19, 1929, to John Wallace and Ethel May Sadler, in a home next to the Hickory Valley Creamery operated by her father. He operated 4 different creameries in those school age years. Virginia graduated from Central City High School, then worked at Quaker Oats for one year. She was united in marriage to Lester Maier on February 12, 1950, at the First Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. They farmed near Alburnett for over 60 years, until her husband's death in 2011.
She was a member of Lafayette Salem Evangelical Church, where she attended every Sunday for 75 years.
Virginia enjoyed gardening, caring for her grandchildren and eating ice cream with her family.
