Virginia May Larsen, 92, of Mount Vernon, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on Monday, March 30, 2015. Funeral services: 10 a.m. Friday, April 3, at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by Pastor Becky High. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon (formerly Morgan's). Burial: Mount Vernon Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Beth (Rev. Tom) Larsen-Lewis of Ashburn, Va., Eric (Chris) Larsen of Lisbon, Kurt Gregg (Jean) Larsen of Ankeny, Dirk (Cher) Larsen of Olin and Ty (Maria) Larsen of Windsor Heights; 14 grandchildren, Jodi Stedman, Amy Tracy, Mary Blacharski, Ingrid Larsen, Erin Larsen, Luke Larsen, Amanda Ritzert, Ann Denner, Chad Fall, Mike Fall, Matt Fall, Ty Egan Larsen, Tessa Larsen and Tate Larsen; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Virginia was born May 17, 1922, in Sioux Falls, S.D., the daughter of Henry and M. Louise (Hollister) Feyder. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School in January 1940, then attended Iowa State University. On Aug. 21, 1944, she married Kurt E. Larsen in Sioux City. After more than 30 years, Virginia retired as the bookkeeper for the Mount Vernon Community Schools superintendent's office. She was a member of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, the Friday Morning Bridge Club, TTT and a founding member of the Mount Vernon Christmas Bazaar. She will be remembered for knitting Christmas stockings, her gentle laugh and her devotion to family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband; sisters, Betty, Henrietta, Gloria and Peggy.
Memorials are suggested to the Mount Vernon Community School District Foundation.
