Virginia L. (Glandorf) Bahr, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 27, 2022, at the Vinton Lutheran Home, with her family by her side.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton with the Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., in Vinton. A memorial fund has been established.
Virginia was born on June 3, 1933, in Vinton, the daughter of Henry J. and Emma (Voss) Glandorf. Virginia graduated from Lincoln High School in Vinton.
Virginia was united in marriage to Elwyn H. Bahr on Sept. 28, 1958, at Trinity Lutheran church in Vinton. Elwyn preceded Virginia in death in 2003. The couple farmed and raised their family in Jackson Township, Benton County and moved to Vinton in 1996.
Virginia served as a 4-H leader while on the farm and was very active in her church. She participated in Walther League in her youth, and taught Sunday school and Mid-Week school as an adult. She also participated in the Choir and served on several ladies circles at Trinity. Virginia loved knitting and sewing and enjoyed tending her garden. She rarely missed a sporting event where her children and grandchildren participated.
She is survived by her children, Tim (Karen) Bahr of Vinton, Jeff (Terri) Bahr of Garrison, Donna (John) Kunkel of Des Moines and Susan (Kraig) DeVries of LaPorte City; 10 grandchildren, Vanessa (Darren) Bechthold, Valerie (Josh) Rollins, Valecia (Mike) Zahorik, John (Amanda) Bahr, Michael (Elise) Bahr, Joel (Alyssa) Bahr, Jayson Kunkel, Taylor Kunkel, Reece DeVries and Ryan DeVries; 20 great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Roger (Karen) Bahr of Walker; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Elwyn, she was preceded in death by her sister, Esther Spoerl.
