Virginia Downs, 91, a resident of Village Ridge, Marion, died Monday, May 5, 2014, at Crestview Acres Care Center, Marion. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion.
Survivors include her children, Liz (Gary) Cook of Monroe City, Mo., Nancy (Don) Hansel of Marion, and Rebecca (William) Allen of Mission Viejo, Calif.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and sister, LoElla Richter.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald J. Downs; great-grandson, Benjamin Cook; and brother, Charles Simons.
Virginia was born April 21, 1923, in Earlville, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Velma (Blank) Simons. She graduated from Earlville High School in 1940, and married Donald Downs on June 14, 1941, in Melbourne.
Virginia was a nurse's aide at the Manchester Hospital for 21 years. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge for 50 years, and a lifetime member of United Methodist Women.
