VIRGIL W. WHITE Cedar Rapids Virgil W. White, 63, died June 19, 2017. Celebration of Life will be held by the family on July 9 from 4 to 10 p.m. at Manhattan Pavilion in Ellis Park, Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his wife, Patricia White; sons, Matthew, Andrew (Kathrin) and James; grandchildren, Amillia, Sophia and Gabriel; and sisters, Laurie Wasek and Luecinda Gibson. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles White; his mother, Betty Jean Runer; and his sister, Sandra Passig. Virgil was born April 7, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and grew up in Kansas City, Kan. He attended West Point Military Academy. He graduated from Emporia State University and also attended Mount Mercy College, Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa. He obtained B.A. degrees in theology and psychology. He was a member of the Honor Society and ROTC and played football. Virgil married Patricia Kohl in Cedar Rapids on May 23, 1981. He worked most of his life as a youth counselor and swim instructor. Working with children was his passion. He loved art, camping and music. He played his viola in orchestras, and also played the guitar, keyboard and flute. Virgil also wrote songs and recorded a CD.
