Virgil Allen Rawson Sr., 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Graveside services will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Ruby; four children, Fran (Terry) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Virgil Jr. (Vickie) Rawson of Marion and Mark Rawson and Angie (Dan) Foster, both of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Lynn Smith, Jennifer Rigel, Debbie Clark, Scott Rawson, Chad Rawson, Eric Rawson, Danny Foster and Andrea Rawson; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Virgil was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; two sisters and five brothers.
Virgil Allen Rawson was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Linn County to Carl and Emma Hanson Rawson. He married Ruby Louise Prochaska on April 21, 1946. Virgil farmed for a number of years and later built homes for 25 years. He was a member of Local 106.
Virgil loved to tinker in his tool shed and always had to keep busy, sometimes even in the evenings.
He was very much loved by his wife and family and will be deeply missed.
