VIRGIL "LOUIE" DIRKS

Virgil "Louie" Dirks, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at the Anamosa Care Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, with interment in the Riverside Cemetery with military honors. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Surviving are two children, Diane (James) Rust and Ronald (Sabrina) Dirks; and a sister, Alice (Ed) Redmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lawrence and Earl.
Virgil Louis Dirks was born July 17, 1930, in Cass Township, Jones County, Iowa. He was the son of John and Irene Ireland Dirks. He attended the Fremont rural school. Virgil served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned home to Anamosa, where he worked at the Stone City Quarry, Ed Sievers Grain Storage and Tyler and Downing Grocery.
