Violette Edna (De La Mater) Kucera, 106, passed into the hands of the Lord, Monday afternoon, January 27, 2025.
A memorial service will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport, Iowa, on Friday, February 7th at 3:00 PM. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Monday, February 10th from 10:00- 11:00 A.M. in the chapel followed by the funeral ceremony.
Violette was born on August 28, 1918, to Edwin Lorenzo Rex and Alice Maude (Sommers) De La Mater of Cedar Rapids. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from McKinley High School in 1936. She married Joseph C. Kucera on New Year's Eve, 1937. Violette and Joe were active members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Malta Chapter.
Violette became an electronics line worker at the Turner Microphone Company in Cedar Rapids and retired as a production supervisor. She had a marvelous talent for fine-detail handwork; sewing, knitting, crocheting; and her projects were much coveted. She was physically active, roller skating and square dancing, as a young woman, and moved on to bowling and golf where she had four lifetime holes-in-one.
Upon her husband's death in 2008, she became a cherished member of the family of her daughter, Dr. Patricia Kucera Robinson, and son-in-law, Stephen R. A. Robinson, in Davenport.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; an infant brother; sister, Mildred; and brother, Harold. She is survived and deeply missed by Steve and Pat; grandson, Joseph R. A. Robinson of Cedar Rapids; granddaughter Sarah and grandson-in-law, Gregg Lind; and great-grandchildren, Stuart and Alice Lind, all of Clinton, Iowa.
Violette highly valued and supported family. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name at the Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center in Clinton where children and their families learn through play.
