Vincik, Janet (Harmon) Gerry
Janet (Harmon) Gerry Vincik, 91, of Springville, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation in Monticello. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Springville Presbyterian Church, Springville, with a luncheon to follow. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion is in charge of arrangements. Private Burial: Springville Cemetery, Springville, Iowa.
Survivors include five children, Susan E. (Bill) Cooper of Springville, William H. Vincik of Springville, Nancy M. (Mel) Mysak of Center Junction, Dorothy A. (Steve) Stewart of Lake Ozark, Mo., and Richard A. Vincik of Whitehall, Mont.; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews; and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, one in infancy, and Bertwell Gerry Jr.
Janet was born March 12, 1920, in North Conway, N.H., the daughter of Bertwell and Minnie E. (Harmon) Gerry Jr. She earned her Registered Nurse's Degree from Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine. She worked as a nurse in Maine, Nebraska and in Anamosa, Iowa. On Feb. 25, 1945, Janet was united in marriage to Henry Vincik in St. Paul, Neb.
Janet enjoyed knitting, reading, crosswords, board games and playing her piano. Janet was a member of the Springville Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and a deacon. She belonged to the U.P.W. and Ruth Circle She was also a longtime member of the Monday Club. Janet felt blessed to have had a loving family and wonderful nursing career.
