Vincent, William 'Bill' George
William “Bill” George Vincent was born in Washington, Iowa, on Nov. 13, 1957, to parents Robert and Esther Kephart Vincent. He was the youngest of four brothers: Charles, Gary and Mike. Bill was raised on the family farm east of Keota and attended school at Keota. Upon graduation Bill went to Kirkwood Community College and majored in Diesel Mechanics. It was there that he met his wife, and love of his life, Kathy. They were joined in marriage on July 21, 1983, in Tampa, Fla. Together they had two boys, Brian and Brandon. Bill was a strong, loving father that raised his boys to become the wonderful men they are today.
Bill was a lifelong Chicago Bears, White Sox and Iowa State Cyclones fan. He also had a love for animals, horses and ponies especially. Bill's family showed at the Iowa State Fair and were known as Vincent Team Hitches. In 1989 Bob, Bill's father, started the family tradition of winning first place in Team Hitch with their beloved ponies, Babe and Doll. Both Bill and his son, Brian, went on to win with the same ponies in the years following.
Bill was always the life of any party and could lighten the mood with his crooked smile and hearty laugh. He worked hard to support his family, primarily as a truck driver, and was a great friend to many. Though his death was sudden and unexpected on Friday, Aug. 5, 2011, he left behind a strong family with fond memories and love in their hearts. To say Bill was a good man doesn't even begin to describe it. He will forever be missed.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy of Washington; two sons, Brandon and girlfriend Brittany of Ames and Brian and wife Kelsey of Amana; and three brothers, Charles of Wellman, Gary of Carlisle, and Michael of Keota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011, at the United Church of Faith in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Powell Funeral Home in Keota.
A general memorial fund has been established. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Bill and his family. Condolences may be emailed at under obituaries.
