Vincent Martin Ryan, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, where a vigil service will begin at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass: 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Father Dennis Juhl. Military honors will be conducted. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Stuart, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Carole; children, Marjorie (Jerry) Lokenvitz, Sun Prairie, Wis., John (Sharon) Ryan, Versailles, Ky., Julie (Dwayne) Hensch, Cedar Rapids, Mary (Rick) Baker, Glendale, Ariz., and Diane (Terry) Bagley and Joseph (Christina) Ryan, both of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer, Diana, Cliffton, Benjamin, Jackie, Matthew, Reid, Sarai, Julianna, Nick, Kelsey and Brody; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Agnes Holmes and Veronica Minor, and a brother, Carney Ryan, all of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John T. Ryan; and sisters, Mary Frances Scanlon, Dorothy Johnston and Mildred Harper.
Vincent was born Oct. 26, 1929, the son of John and Frances (Carney) Ryan, in Stuart, Iowa. He served in the Iowa National Guard during the Korean conflict. On Aug. 23, 1952, Vincent was united in marriage to Carole Unzeitig at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
He worked as a power plant operator for Alliant Energy (formerly Iowa Electric). Vincent was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
