Viers, Jack L.
Jack L. Viers, 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at his home. A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cedar Memorial's certified staff celebrant Julie Freese will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Jack is survived by his children, Lance (Erika Elles) Viers of Cedar Rapids and Vickie Forcht of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Josh and Jackie Forcht and Blake, Gracie, Ella and Molly Viers; two brothers, Bill (Gloria) Viers of Cedar Rapids and Luis (Peg) Viers of Monroe, Wash.; and his dog, Teddy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; parents, Luis and Edra Viers; two brothers and two sisters.
Jack was born Dec. 6, 1936, in Maxwell, Iowa, the son of Luis and Edra (Cunningham) Viers. Jack married Dorothy Karns on Oct. 7, 1960, in Tiffin. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked as a heavy equipment operator for Union Operating Engineers for several years before his retirement in 1997.
Jack enjoyed classic cars, working on his vehicles and spending time with his family and friends.
