Vicky Lahman
VICKY LAHMAN
Cedar Rapids
Vicky Lahman passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 10, 2014, after a 2 1/2 year battle with esophageal cancer. Her life was not defined by cancer. She defined how a person could live her life majestically while fighting cancer! Her secret was her faith in the Heavenly Father and her knowledge that one day she would return to his side.
Vicky was born in Paintsville, Ky., to Wallace and Georgan Salyers on Nov. 20, 1954, and returned to be with the Heavenly Father May 10, 2014. She married William Lahman June 8, 2013, in Cedar Rapids, where they shared a home and life. She moved here from Paintsville, Ky., in 2011 after meeting Bill. It was love at first sight!
To see Vicky's smile was to know her. It always could light up a room or warm the heart of a shy youngster. She was a pied piper of joy and pure honest love. She shared it generously with anyone who was willing to take the moment to enjoy it. She laughed, she had the gift of a very quick wit and she loved seeing others smile! When asked how she was doing she would always respond, "Finer than a frog's hair!"
Vicky loved being around young children, cooking, the outdoors, reading and learning so many new things, topics ranging like camping, canning, prepping, The Book of Mormon, The Bible, civil war encampments and adventure.
Her faith was her foundation and she never wavered from it. Her life was one of faith, family and humor. After having undergone esophageal surgery two years ago, the very next morning it was Vicky who was uplifting the nursing staff's spirits! How blessed we all were to have her in our lives.
She is survived by her husband, William Lahman of Cedar Rapids; sons James Stombaugh and Bubby Skaggs II of Paintsville, Ky., and stepson Richard Lahman of Newton, Iowa; and her sister, Suzie Wright of Painstville, Ky.
A special thank-you to Dr Wilber and the staff at Hall-Perrine Cancer Center, Dr. Hodgman Mercy Cardiology Clinic. Drs. Lynch and Iannettoni of the University of Iowa Heart and Vascular Center and the Mercy Hospice staff.
Services will be noon Saturday, May 17, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4150 Blue Jay Dr. NE. There will be a potluck lunch after the service.
A memorial fund, in lieu of flowers, may be sent in Vicky's name to Waypoint-Domestic Violence Victim Services, 318 Fifth St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 or to Livestrong at the YMCA, 207 Seventh Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
