UPDATE: Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. Celebration of Life will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at Palisades-Kepler State Park.
VICKIE KOSINA Mount Vernon Vickie Lou Rutledge Kosina, 66, of Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016. A ceremony celebrating her life will be held in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to one of her treasured charities, ASPCA or Autism Speaks.
Survivors include her children, Kelly Rutledge (Dave Ohman) of Charlotte, N.C., Brandon Rutledge of Walnut, Ill., and Carrie Rutledge (Sean Kneeland) of Los Angeles, Calif.; grandchildren, Dominic and Georgia Ignacio of Charlotte; sister, Joanne Wells of Eastaboga, Ala.; brothers, Gene Samuelson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Russell Samuelson of Red Oak; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Red Oak, Iowa, to Russell and Georgia (Perkins) Samuelson, Vickie was married to Edward "Ned" Rutledge. She devoted her life to serving her community, understanding and contributing to those who needed a compassionate heart. Vickie was employed for many years at the Linn County Sheriff's Office, REM of Mount Vernon, and most recently, as a paraeducator for the Lisbon school district.
Vickie had a great understanding and love for those she cared for. Her kindhearted soul, her spirituality as a Christian, and her unique way with words brought a positive force to those she helped.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her children's father; brother, Robert "Bob" Samuelson; and brother-in-law, Jack Wells.
