Vest, Gerald 'Jerry' L.

Gerald “Jerry” L. Vest, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013 , at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton, with the Rev. Stephen Preus officiating. Interment will be at Garrison Cemetery in Garrison, with military rites conducted by Geo. G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 of Vinton and the USMC Honor Guard. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Jerry was born Oct. 17, 1939, in Vinton, to Russell and Betty (Grimm) Vest. On April 29, 1961, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Yoch . Jerry served his nation in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961 and had been employed as a mechanic for D.C. Taylor. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vinton.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of Vinton; his sons, Craig (Lori) Vest of Garrison and Randy (Kelly) Vest of Vinton; and his grandchildren, Shane Vest of Dunkerton and Blake Vest of Garrison.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Roger Vest.
