Veronica E. Gogel. 98, of Worthington, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Shady Rest Care Center in Cascade, Iowa.
Friends and relatives of Veronica may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2018, at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 3:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Veronica will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 4, 2018, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Quint presiding. Burial will be held in St. Paul's Cemetery in Worthington, Iowa.
She was born April 29, 1920, in Holy Cross, Iowa, daughter of Jacob and Catherine (Schultz) Foxen. She received her education in the Holy Cross country schools. On April 29, 1946, she was united in marriage to Thomas Gogel in Holy Cross, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1991. The couple farmed together in the Worthington area. She also was a great homemaker.
She loved making quilts, playing cards and doing puzzles.
She was a member of St. Paul's Parish in Worthington, Iowa, and also was a member of the parish choir.
She is survived by four children, Virginia (Clem) Henry of Marion, Iowa, David (Judy) Gogel of Dyersville, Iowa, Jerry (Mary) Gogel of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Terry (Connie) Gogel of Freeport, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters-in-law, Germaine Foxen of Luxemburg, Iowa, and Romilda Westenhofer of Louisville, Ky.; and a brother-in-law, Andrew "Jack" Gogel of Mariah Hill, Ind.
She also was preceded in death by one son, Larry Gogel, on Aug. 20, 1951; five brothers, Joe, Louis, Leonard, Emmett and Clarence Foxen; and one sister, Lorraine Foxen.
