A Celebration of Life for Vernon "Hoppy" Kinsinger, 89, of Wellman, formerly of Kalona, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for Richmond AM-VET Post No. 107 and Parkview Manor. Vernon Kinsinger died Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Parkview Manor in Wellman.
Vernon "Hoppy" Kinsinger was born Aug. 26, 1926, in Johnson County, Iowa, the son of Vernie and Ethel (Miller) Kinsinger. He graduated from Kalona High School and was united in marriage to Mary Gingerich on Oct. 27, 1946, in Indiana. Hoppy owned and operated Hoppy's Produce, Kinsinger Construction and K&K Sanitation. He was a member of the United Christian and Baptist Church and enjoyed bowling, Iowa Hawkeye football and basketball, especially the AM-VET's bus trips, spending time with his family and playing cards.
Survivors include three children and spouses, Bev (Tim) Colbert of Riverside, Sue (Tracy) Janecek of Washington, Iowa, and Bob (Sue) Kinsinger of Riverside; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Hoppy in death were his parents; his wife, Mary; one great-grandson; one brother, Orville Kinsinger; and one sister, Orthella Reece.
