Bud was born Oct. 6, 1928, the son of Joseph and Grace Svoboda, at his
family home in Mount
Vernon, Iowa. He was
educated in Illinois and
Iowa. When he was
stricken with spinal
meningitis, his formal
education ended but he
never let his illness slow him down. On Aug. 25, 1950, Bud married the love of his life, Alberta Joyce Clifton, at First Presbyterian Church in Mechanics-ville.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in July 1951 and proudly served in Korea during the war. Bud was honorably discharged in
July 1953 as Sergeant First Class of the Motor Pool.
Bud and Alberta farmed
in the Mechanicsville
and Stanwood areas until they moved
in 1962 to the Heritage Farm three miles northwest of Mechanics-ville. Bud enjoyed visiting and servicing his Pioneer Seed Corn customers for 22 years.
Bud is loved and survived by his wife, Alberta of Mechanicsville; son Wayne (Marla) Svoboda of Brooklyn Heights, N.Y.; daughters, Joy (Al) Root of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and
Sally (Joe) Hunt of Mechanicsville; sister-in-law, Arlene Svoboda of Mechanicsville,; grand-children, Katie (Ben)
Wooster, Kevin (Sarah) Root, Krisanna (Dan) Sternquist, Brady Hunt and Tyler (Claire) Hunt; and great-grandchildren, Jordan Hunt (and two more on the way in March and May).
Bud's greatest joy was spending time and making memories with his grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Charles Svoboda; twin brother, Glen "Buster" Svoboda; niece, Inis
Huffman; and sister,
Marian Thiher.
