Verlin C. Hepker, 83, of Hiawatha, Iowa, passed away Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 9 a.m. Wednesday at the
funeral home. Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Hiawatha.
Verlin was born July 19, 1934, in McPherson, Kan., the son of Carl and Eunice Hepker. At the age of 16, he had his first Indian motorcycle. On Nov. 18, 1955, he eloped with JoHanna M. Puckhaber in Wisconsin and passed away on their anniversary 62 years later. Verlin worked at Rockwell Collins as an N.C. programmer for 44 years. He enjoyed drag racing motor bikes on a national level and participating in cowboy "shoot out" re-enactments. Verlin and JoHanna loved RV traveling, wintering in Nevada and riding their Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Over the years, they affectionately became known as "Ma and Pa Hepker."
Verlin has a great sense of humor, was a quiet and soft-spoken man and a devout Christian. He was a considerate man to others and a loving husband and father.
Verlin is survived by his wife, JoHanna; his sons, Wayne Hepker of Arizona and Calvin (Erin) Hepker of Washington; a sister, Yvonne Skinner of California; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and his dogs, Chips and Tiny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Eunice; and his infant son, Rory Dean Hepker.
