Verla Mae Dauenbaugh-Cole, 76, passed away Friday, July 13, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital, Hospice Unit, in Cedar Rapids.

Verla was born Nov. 27, 1941, southeast of Center Point, Iowa, the daughter of Clair Virl and Pauline Dauenbaugh. She graduated from Quasqueton High School. Verla worked in the accounting field of the food service industry for 35 years, until her retirement in January 2011. She suffered a heart attack and severe stroke in December 2011, but always kept a positive attitude in life.

Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her devoted family and close friends. Verla was always generous, almost to a fault. If she was down to her last dollar, she would gladly give it to you. In addition to her family, she enjoyed bird watching, flower gardening, playing cards and trips to the casino. She also enjoyed collecting, especially dolls.

Verla is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Don Cole; two sons, Scott (Becki) Clark of Cedar Rapids and Robert Clark of Walker; and three stepchildren, Shelly (Michael) Huylar, Cherri Davis and Duke (Brandi) Cole, all from the state of Washington. Verla also leaves five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, eight stepgrandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Virginia Benson of Cedar Rapids; and brother, Lowell (Joyce) Dauenbaugh of Urbandale; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Verla was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, at Palo United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, with a light lunch to follow. Casual dress is requested.
