Verbick, Jo Ed
Jo Ed Verbick, 76, a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, at Living Center East. Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear with military rites. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his brother, Larry (Janet) Verbick of Cedar Rapids; and two nephews, Jeff (Kris) Schlemmer of Ankeny, and Mark Schlemmer of Cedar Rapids; three nieces, Dawn Verbick of Cedar Rapids, Shelly (Mike) Johnson of Wichita, Kan., and Kelly (Brad) Julius of Alanta, Kan.; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janet Schlemmer.
Jo E. was born Sept. 20, 1935, the son of Dale and Maxine (Mclain) Verbick. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1954. Jo E. served with the U.S. Army for 15 years. He worked at Welty Way.
Jo E. was a Gold Life Master in bridge. He enjoyed gardening, especially Hostas and feeding the birds. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Postcard Club.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Jo E.
