Vera A. Wulfekuhle, 90, of Independence, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
Vera was born April 5, 1925, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Frank A. and Mary (Scherbring) Ronnebaum. She attended Seneca Schools, and later moved with her family to the Edgewood area, where on Feb. 6, 1945, she married Leonard B. Wulfekuhle at St. Mark's Catholic Church. The couple farmed for 20 years in the Greeley and Lamont area before moving to Independence in 1976.
Vera was employed with Rush Park Hotel for 13 years and with Super Eight Hotel for nine years before her retirement.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Leonard Wulfekuhle; three children, Jerry (Stacy) Wulfekuhle, Plantation, Fla., Don (Judy) Wulfekuhle, Independence, and Marcia Wulfekuhle, Waterloo; two grandchildren, Tanya (Jason) Jones, West Des Moines, and Jason (Julie) Wulfekuhle, Johnston; and four great-grandchildren, Carter, Claire, Claudia and Jackson.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Matt and Ernie Ronnebaum.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, where a parish vigil service will be at 7 p.m.
