Vera Caroline (Kloft) Banowetz, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017.
A visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, at St. Mathew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation directed to St. Mathew's Catholic Church.
Vera was born Nov. 1, 1930, in Jackson County near Springbrook, Iowa, to John and Mary Jacobs Kloft. She grew up on a farm east of Springbrook. On June 30, 1953, she married Norbert M. Banowetz at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellevue. To this union four children were born.
Vera was employed as a federal worker for 21 years before retiring in 1989 as a secretary at the Social Security Administration in Cedar Rapids.
Vera and Norbert were members of several dance clubs. They traveled many years with local bands, entertaining as featured dancers at nursing homes and festivals.
Vera will be missed by her husband, Norbert; two sons, Mark (Kathleen) Banowetz of Ely and Kevin (Julie) Banowetz of O'Fallon, Mo.; one daughter, Nancy (Greg) Wymore of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; five great-grandchildren; and three
stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sharon Flesher; three sisters, Rosina Kieffer, Alma Banowetz and Evelyn Medinger; and three brothers, Clarence, Alan and Donald Kloft.
