Velta S. Lielkoks (Bumbiers), 88, passed away at Brooklyn Estates care center in Brooklyn, Iowa, on Dec. 7, 2023. She passed with her husband Jekabs and good friend Edie at her side.
Velta was born Jan. 17, 1935, in Sidgunda, Latvia. She immigrated to the U.S. when young but remained heavily connected to her heritage. She married Jekabs in 1961 and they had three children together.
Velta was a staple at the Minneapolis Latvian church and participated in a charity quilting club. She enjoyed cooking and is fondly remembered by her grandchildren for her famous pancakes.
She is survived by her husband Jekabs, her three children, Ingrid Dreimann of Grand Junction, Colo., Theodor (Susan) Lielkoks of Grand Junction, Colo., and Kristine Marks of North Liberty, Iowa; and by her six grandchildren, Erin (Blake) Miller, Andrea Lielkoks, Finja Dreimann, Sydney Marks, Sage Marks, and Anika Dreimann. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Anna Kancitis and Ilga Mouchka. She was preceded in death by her parents, Karlis and Emilija Bumbiers, her brother Eric Bumbiers, and her grandson Morgan Dreimann.
