Velma Anne Quackenbush, 78, left this earth Saturday, May 17, 2014, at her home in Rockford, Ill. She will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date.
Velma was born Dec. 16, 1935, to Jesse John and Blanche Hannah Quacken-bush in Vinton, Iowa. She graduated from high school in Vinton in 1953 and received a B.S. degree in physical education from Iowa State Teachers College in 1958. Velma worked many years for Girl Scouts of America and taught and coached track in Rockford, retiring in 1991.
She is survived by her sister, Mary and husband Walter Kaiser of Dayton, Ohio; sister-in-law, Delores Quackenbush of Reno, Nev.; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, a sister, three nephews, four aunts, two uncles and two cousins.
