Velma June Stover, 89, of Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Marion, died unexpectedly on Oct. 26, 2018, at her home.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at noon at Lensing Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville, Iowa. Greeting time will be from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Paul Engle Association (P.O. Box 2756, Cedar Rapids, IA) or a charity of your choice.
Velma was born on June 21, 1929, in Maryland Heights, Mo., to Clyde and Cassa (Emerson) Kirkpatrick. She was raised in Little Rock, Ark., and St. Louis, Mo. Velma worked as an occupational therapist assistant and a lithographer assistant while living in St. Louis, Mo.
Velma married Donald Stover, PhD., on June 10, 1961, in St. Louis, Mo. The couple moved to Marion in 1962, where she spent many years as a homemaker to raise their son, Roy. Velma and Don escaped Iowa winters by traveling to Tucson, Ariz., for many years after he retired in 1991. Velma lost a part of her when Don passed away unexpectedly in 2012.
Velma enjoyed playing tennis, painting, playing bridge and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her son, Roy Stover (Dee) of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Matthew Stover, Carlin Stover (Angel) and Timothy Stover; great-grandchildren, Anabella, Gabriella and Kyran; beloved niece, Karen, and beloved friend Patti Klaus and her family Bob, Kyle and Kelli, who loved and cared for her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and her siblings.
