VELMA FRANDSEN WITT
Highlands Ranch, Colo.
Velma Frandsen Witt, 94, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., died Dec. 31, 2021. No service. A private family burial will be at a later time.
Survivors include sons, Jeffrey (Susan) Blaine, Minn., Gregory (Nancy) Davenport, Iowa; daughter, Julie (Daniel) Meyer, Highlands Ranch, Colo; six grandchildren, Kevin (Eleanor) Witt, David (Nicole) Witt, Sarah Witt, Daniel (Diana) Witt, Kathryn (Brian) Reager and Kelly (Chris) Kingma; and nine great-grandchildren, Thomas and Daniel Reager, Katelyn and Kyle Kingma, Gregory and Natalie Witt, Townes and Dorothy Witt,and Everett Witt.
Velma was born July 11, 1927, in Nashville, Iowa, the middle child of eleven children born to Carl P. Frandsen, and Florence Scott Frandsen. She attended Watson country school, Baldwin High School and graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1944.
She married Albert F. Witt in 1947 and moved to Cedar Rapids. They owned and operated a Tropical Fish business for 10 years and then she began working at Rockwell (Collins Radio) as an assembly operator and was promoted to manager of bargaining unit Wage and Administration. After 25 years, she retired (1968) and moved to Maquoketa where she had many relatives. She moved to Highlands Ranch, Colo., in 2016 to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
When her children were in school, she was president of the PTA in elementary (Hayes), junior high (Wilson) and senior high (Jefferson) schools. She was a 40 year member of the Iowinians Contest Club and Cedar Rapids Winwrites, serving as President several times. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and Maquoketa, a volunteer at Cardinal School, a member and past President of the Maquoketa Garden Club, a member and past President of the Jackson County Regional Health Center Auxiliary, a hospital volunteer, community volunteer and a Jackson County Flower Show volunteer.
She especially enjoyed her family, reading, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, playing Mexican Train, helping others, the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing hearts on her computer and was a Chicago Cubs fan since her childhood. She lit up a room and made friends everywhere she went, and was spunky and inquisitive all the way until the end.
She is survived by sister, Ione Nelson, Eldridge, Iowa; and brothers, Arthur Frandsen, Maquoketa and Larry Frandsen in DeWitt, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years; her parents; sisters, Irene Kleinsmith and Ruby Voss; and brothers, Paul (Buster), Harvey and Roy Frandsen.
