Velma M. Brcka, 95, of Iowa City, died Monday, May 25, 2015, at Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with the Rev.
Steven Witt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a vigil service will take place just before, at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Velma's memory to the Regina Foundation or Iowa City Hospice.

Velma Mary Yeggy was born July 2, 1919, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Beatch) Yeggy. She graduated from Riverside High School and later from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Velma married Victor Dvorsky on June 10, 1941, in Solon. Victor died in June 1943. She married Ivan Miller on May 26, 1947, in Iowa City. Ivan died April 1, 1975. Velma married Leonard Brcka on Jan. 12, 1980, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
For a number of years she taught in rural schools. She later worked in the music department at the Iowa City High School and before her retirement, she worked for Regina High School in the business office, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, where she also was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society.
She enjoyed her family and friends, music and dancing, quilting, crocheting for hospice patients, traveling to visit relatives in Canada and France, and was a fan of the Hawkeyes. Velma also appreciated nature, especially time spent enjoying the birds and flowers.
Her family includes her husband, Leonard; daughters, Rosemary Mason of Morgan Hill, Calif., Janice Quinn and her husband, Jay Adams, of Coralville, Susan Mashaw-Roerig and her husband, Howard, of Sedalia, Colo., and Laura Scholten and her husband, Alvin, of Redmond, Wash.; five grandchildren, Katherine Dumovic, Dawn Wyatt, Angela Herron, Billy Mason and David Mason; nine great-grandchildren; stepsons, David J. Brcka and his wife, Rita, of Waukee and Gary D. Brcka of Casselberry, Fla.; stepdaughter, Carolyn Schelling and her husband, Warren, of Albuquerque, N.M.; six stepgrand- children; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, four brothers, Bernard, Leonard, Wilfred and Hubert; and stepgrandson, Bobby Schelling.
