Velda (Eash) Chapman, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A public visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at The Church on Northland (First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren) with a memorial service to follow at noon. The family ask that masks be worn at the church. A private family burial will take place at Oak Shade Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Velda was born on May 8, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ruth (Miller) Eash. She was a 1960 graduate from Iowa Mennonite School in Kalona. On Sept. 1, 1961, Velda was united in marriage to James C. Chapman in South English, Iowa. Velda had a love for traveling, getting her hair and nails done, shopping and being a social butterfly. But what she loved most of all was spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. Velda will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Velda is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Michael) Benedict of Embarrass, Minn., and Elizabeth (Carroll) Bogard of Victor, Idaho; grandchildren, Katie (Todd) Tumilty, Joseph (Deena) Johnson, Samual Johnson and Mikaela Bogard; four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Tyler, Delilah and Ivy; brothers, Dennis (Nancy) Eash and Michael (Angie) Eash; and
sister-in-law Rose Marie Eash.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth Eash; husband, James Chapman; and siblings, Verla Kaalberg, Judy Yoder and William Eash.
